‘Architectural masterpiece’ in Texas adds a bit of New Orleans whimsy. Check it out
A unique and alluring home — that is just as stunning on the inside as it is on the outside — has hit the real estate market in Houston, Texas, for $969,900.
“A picture paints a thousand words, but physically seeing this extraordinarily beautiful home paints a million more!” the listing on HAR.com says. “This stunning, eclectic and highly unique architectural masterpiece is a one of a kind and will be the conversation piece of all your family, friends and those who visit you.”
With seven bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms, the charming home has a “New Orleans” sort of whimsy thanks to its high ceiling atrium with balconies, a feature that the home centers around, according to the listing.
The house was once owned by a Houston-area Jewish community philanthropist who “loved Japan,” the current owner explained to the Houston Chronicle.
“The main part was supposed to be like a Japanese garden,” Missy Bernosky told the Houston Chronicle. “It had plants in the atrium with lights when you walked in the front door, lava rocks in the foyer (and) all in the walls, really funky wallpaper in Japanese writing.”
Other features inside the 5,167-square-foot home include:
Chef’s kitchen
Breakfast bar
Back patio
Garden
Games room
Gym
Study
There is also a guest suite above a hidden garage.
“It’s very deceiving,” Bernosky told the Houston Chronicle. “You would never know from the outside really how big the house is.”
