After resounding success at the box office, “Top Gun: Maverick” has finally been made available for at-home viewing.

And there are several ways to watch the Tom Cruise film, which has raked in $1.4 billion worldwide since its Memorial Day weekend release in theaters.

Watching “Top Gun: Maverick” the PVOD way

As of Wednesday, Aug. 24, the easiest way to watch the “Top Gun” sequel is through the Premium Video on Demand (PVOD) model.

It was made available for purchase on Tuesday through Amazon Prime, iTunes, YouTube, Vudu and other platforms. The movie is $19.99.

You’ll have to wait a little longer to physically own the film. The 4K Ultra HD, DVD and Blu-ray version will be released Nov. 1, according to retailers.

Where can you stream “Top Gun: Maverick” for free?

“Top Gun: Maverick” is expected to be released on Paramount+, but the streamer has not released a date for its debut, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

But why Paramount+ instead of Netflix or HBO Max? Paramount Pictures produced the film, giving the streaming service easier access for the popular movie.

Once it’s released on Paramount+, you can watch the film with a free 7-day trial. Plans start at $4.99 per months after the trial expires.

Paramount movies are typically released on its streaming service within 45 days of the theatrical release, but “Top Gun: Maverick” stayed in theaters longer than most films, according to The New York Times.

Where can you watch the original ‘Top Gun’?

If you need a refresh of the 1986 film, you can watch it for free on Amazon Prime Video as a part of your subscription. But act fast, as it leaves the streaming service on Aug. 31, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

It’s also available to stream on Paramount+

What do critics say about ‘Top Gun: Maverick’?

“Top Gun: Maverick” has been universally beloved, boasting a 99% favorable rating by the audience and 96% rating by critics, according to Rotten Tomatoes.

It recently surpassed “Avengers: Infinity War” to become the sixth-highest grossing movie of all time domestically, Variety reported.

“I’m just never gonna live this down in my house,” said Paul Bettany, who starred in “Infinity War.” His wife, Jennifer Connelly, starred in “Top Gun: Maverick” as Cruise’s love interest.

Critics gave the sequel glowing reviews, commenting on the cinematography, action sequences and acting by Cruise.

“Joe Kosinski matches his well-established architectural precision with suitably nostalgic but never pandering emotionality, while Cruise commands the screen in a performance that leverages his multimillion-dollar star wattage to brighten the entire film,” said Todd Gilchrist with AV Club.

”As a stand-alone blockbuster that’s just trying to suck viewers’ eyeballs out of their sockets with hellacious flight photography and thunderous sound, Maverick is just what every cineplex in the country has been crying out for,” added David Sims with The Atlantic.
