Fisherman vanished when boat capsized in Delaware River. His body was just found

Two men were fishing when their boat capsized in the Delaware River, and one of the men vanished.

After 11 days of searching, his body was recently found, New York State Police said.

William Vandyke, a 47-year-old from York, Pennsylvania, was fishing with a friend on Sept. 8, police said. They were fishing along a section of the Delaware River in New York when the boat capsized.

Officials rushed to help the men and discovered one of them had made it to shore by the time they arrived, McClatchy News previously reported. The man received medical treatment.

Authorities couldn’t find the other fisherman and began a search with the help of water rescue teams from New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Vandyke’s body was found in New Jersey at about 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 19, New York State Police said. Officials did not say specifically where his body was found.

The Delaware River stretches from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware, and empties into the Delaware Bay.
