NFL player who tackled protester unfazed by police report. ‘Can’t focus on it’
A protester flattened by a Los Angeles Rams linebacker after running onto the field with a pink smoke bomb has filed a report on the incident with police, California cops told news outlets.
The incident took place shortly before halftime during a “Monday Night Football” game against the San Francisco 49ers at Levi Stadium on Oct. 3, The Mercury News reported..
Video shows Alex Taylor, protesting on behalf of the animal rights group Direct Action Everywhere, dash onto the field before linebacker Bobby Wagner tackles him.
On Tuesday, Oct. 4, Taylor filed a police report regarding the incident, the Santa Clara Police Department told KRON. The details of the report were not released.
“Can’t really focus on it,” Wagner told ESPN. “I’m more concerned about the security guard that was hurt trying to chase him. ... You just got to do what you got to do.”
Taylor and another protester were cited and released following the incident, The Mercury News said.
“He is considering his legal options, including legal action against the players involved and the NFL,” Matt Johnson, speaking on behalf of Taylor and the other protester, told KPIX.
Rams linebacker Takkarist McKinley also chased Taylor on the field, but it was the hit by Wagner that left the protester sprawled on the field.
“There’s consequences for your actions,” Wagner told ESPN. Rams coach Sean McVay said he supported Wagner.
Direct Action Everywhere has staged similar protests at other sporting events, KRON reported.
