Climber without gear falls from ‘off trail’ cliff and dies, New Hampshire officials say

A rock climber scaling a cliff in New Hampshire fell to his death, according to officials.

The individual, who police identified as 18-year-old Colbee Cammarata-Hodgman, was climbing near Clough State Park on Sunday, Oct. 9, the state Fish and Game Department said in a news release.

Police said he was climbing with friends, WMUR reported.

He was on an “off trail” cliff near the Everett Dam, by the town of Weare, the department said. These cliffs are “not a designated climbing area,” and the man had no gear or safety equipment.

At around 4 p.m., the climber lost his footing and fell.

“Due to the nature of the cliffs, Conservation Officers … were called to assist with the high angle extraction,” the department said.

Crews were able to get to Cammarata-Hodgman and bring him down but, despite life saving efforts, he died from his injuries.

Clough State Park is roughly 15 miles northwest of downtown Manchester.
