6-year-old dies in WA logging accident as older brother tries to save him, family says

A 6-year-old boy died in a logging accident in Washington as his older brother tried to save him, family members said.

Chris Bell, 27, was out getting firewood with his younger brother Noah and their dad when a rogue log started rolling right toward the 6-year-old, a friend of the family wrote in an online fundraiser.

“While getting firewood, a fallen tree began to roll, and was on a dangerous path,” Carol Jones wrote on the fundraising page. “Chris acted quickly trying to save his little brother, Noah, and sadly Noah did not survive.”

Bell ended up pinned under the tree, and was flown to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane with “extensive injuries,” Jones wrote in the post.

Jones is a fellow congregant at Laclede Community Church, according to the fundraising page.

Josh Jones, a pastor at the church, told the Spokesman-Review Bell works as a truck driver.

Josh Jones has been keeping their community updated through the church Facebook page. He posted that Bell was off the ventilator and was able to talk and ask for food on Wednesday.

“He will spend a couple weeks in the hospital and then move to a rehabilitation center for 6 more weeks,” Josh Jones wrote. “He will be in a wheelchair for 10 weeks.”

Bell’s wife Allison told KHQ6 that Noah had celebrated his birthday just two days before the accident.

“We know he’s in a better place,” she told the outlet.
