A 17-year-old in Utah died after being hit by a pickup truck while walking to school, media outlets reported.

Lilly Warren, a senior at Springville High in Springville, was walking to school around 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25, when a pickup truck hit her near South Canyon Road, according to The Salt Lake Tribune. The driver stayed on the scene and worked with police.

Police couldn’t confirm if Warren was in the area of a crosswalk but she was blocks from her school, according to KUTV.

Officials tried to resuscitate her at the scene after she “suffered multiple injuries including a severe traumatic brain injury,” according to a GoFundMe created for Warren.

She was rushed to Utah Valley Hospital where she died the following day, according to The Salt Lake Tribune.

Neighbors in the area expressed concerns about the crosswalk and potential crashes, according to KUTV.

“This intersection is actually really dangerous,” said Chris Claflin, who lives close to the area, told KUTV.

“Her accident has impacted her younger brothers and so many of her family, friends, classmates, and every person that Lilly met and made immediate friends with,” the family said in their update on GoFundMe. “Lilly will live on through organ donation and will bless the lives of other families who have waited for their own miracle.”

Springville is about 50 miles south of Salt Lake City.
