A 76-year-old Sitka man who failed to return from a hiking trip was found dead, Alaska State Troopers reported.

Mike Motti was reported missing at 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, after going to hike the Verstovia mountain trail, troopers said in a news release.

Family members used a “find my phone” app to locate Motti “near the trail a short distance from his planned turn-around point,” troopers said.

Search teams and a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crew found Motti dead at about 7 p.m., the release said. His body was flown out by helicopter.

No foul play is suspected, troopers said.
