When Jessica Gomez spotted a rider clinging to the back of a San Jose light rail train passing her vehicle on the highway, she didn’t know what to think.

“I just turned around really surprised and was like ‘what is going on?’ So I just grabbed my phone,” Gomez, who shot video of the bizarre sight, told KNTV.

The video from Wednesday, Nov. 30, shows a person hanging off the outside of a Santa Clara Valley Transit Authority train traveling along a freeway.

“I was just hoping he’d be safe,” Gomez told KRON, which posted the video. “With that speed that the train was going, like 70, maybe 75, it was going really, really fast.”

It’s not known how the person ended up clinging to the outside of the train or what happened to them, but VTA says it is investigating.

“We urge anyone who sees this type of behavior to call 911,” the agency said on Twitter, calling the action “extremely dangerous and irresponsible.”.

“Riding on the outside of any VTA vehicle is against the law and can be fatal,” VTA said.

VTA provides mass transit throughout the San Jose area of California.
