A 17-year-old returned to the scene of a deadly hit-and-run crash with his dad and a damaged car, police said.

Now, the Tennessee teen faces multiple charges, including leaving the scene of the New Year’s Day crash, according to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.

Police said a man was crossing a street when a car ran into him and left the scene on Sunday, Jan. 1. The crash was reported at about 10 p.m. along Murfreesboro Pike, southeast of downtown and near the intersection with Elm Hill Pike.

“A short time later, a 17-year-old from Mt. Juliet returned to the scene in a white Ford Taurus with his father,” officers wrote in a news release. “The teen had told his father that he thought he might have hit something. The Taurus had damage consistent with the crash.”

After the crash, police said the teen “was charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving injury, failure to report an accident and failure to render aid.”

Officials are trying to identify the pedestrian, who died early Jan. 2.
