A 33-year-old woman was killed on a highway after she got out of her vehicle following a rollover crash and walked into traffic, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The woman was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe westbound on a highway near Christmas on Tuesday, Jan. 3, when her vehicle left the road toward the inside shoulder, according to a Highway Patrol report. She overcorrected to the right, causing the SUV to flip onto the outside shoulder, the report says.

She then crawled out of the vehicle and walked onto the eastbound lane of State Road 520 into the path of an oncoming vehicle, the report says.

The vehicle, a 2006 Volvo XC90, struck her just before 3 a.m., according to the report.

The woman was pronounced dead on scene. The driver of the Volvo was not injured and stayed on the scene after the crash, the report says.

Florida Highway Patrol did not identify the victim.

The crash remains under investigation.

Christmas is about 20 miles east of Orlando.
