‘Furry little bandit’ causes destruction in Oklahoma Department of Libraries building

A “furry little bandit” triggered an alarm system while running amok in an Oklahoma Department of Libraries building, officials said.

The raccoon broke ceiling tiles and knocked items from shelves during its fit of destruction in the state’s Archives and Records Annex, according to a Feb. 9 Facebook post from the state department.

The critter was captured, then it appeared to pose in its temporary cage as state officials took some photo evidence to share on social media.

“Ah yea, we know that guy,” the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation said on Twitter. “He watched (‘National Treasure’) once and now he’s made heisting old documents his entire personality. It’s a whole thing.”

The sneaky raccoon will have a harder time stealing any records moving forward, as it’s been relocated to Chickasha Lake, about 60 miles southwest of downtown Oklahoma City.

“Enjoy your new home far, far away from the Oklahoma state records,” officials said.

A day after sharing about the raccoon madness, authorities joked about finding the critter’s “library card” near the state records building.

“If this is yours, reach out,” the department said in a tweet with the hashtag #itsatrap.
