A military helicopter crashed along an Alabama highway, leaving no survivors, officials said.

The crash happened at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, on Alabama 53 in Madison County, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. The agency confirmed it was a Black Hawk helicopter.

Everyone on board was killed, and the aircraft burned, Don Webster with Huntsville Emergency Medical Services, Inc. told AL.com and WHNT.

Meteorologist James Spann shared a video of the crashed helicopter billowing smoke in the middle of the highway.

Webster said it was unclear how many people were on board the helicopter when it crashed, AL.com reported.

Redstone Arsenal, a U.S. Army post, said it would be supporting local law enforcement and rescue crews that were on scene to handle the crash investigation but did not believe the crash was related to Redstone Arsenal assets.

“Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division in-conjunction with deputies from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office are assisting with securing the scene,” the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said in a statement. “Nothing further is available as the investigation is ongoing.”

Madison County is about 115 miles north of Birmingham.
