Dangerous TikTok trend prompts new warning signs on ride, Disneyland officials say

A dangerous TikTok trend has some riders unfastening their seatbelts on an iconic Disney California Adventure attraction, Disney officials warned.

The Anaheim, California, resort has posted new signs at Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout advising guests they can be kicked out of the park for failing to keep seat belts fastened while on the drop ride, the Disney blog MiceChat reported.

The ride, formerly designed as the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, includes three free-fall drops during which riders can briefly rise out of their seats, according to Disneyland.

A TikTok trend reportedly encourages guests to unfasten their seat belts for more airtime during the drops, Disney officials told The Orange County Register.

New signs warning against such behavior were posted Tuesday, Feb. 21, the publication said.

Ride operators, called cast members at Disney parks, also are taking extra precautions to ensure guests properly fasten their restraints, MiceChat reported.

“Folks can be as foolish as they want on social media, but when they start ruining the park experience for everyone else, it’s a step too far,” the blog posted. “We hope the people in question lose their passes and that this trend ends quickly.”

The tower drop ride, which opened in the California park in 2004, was rethemed in 2017 to reference the Marvel Cinematic Universe series of films, The Orange County Register reported.
