65-year-old attacked by pack of dogs dies beside road, Alabama officials say
A 65-year-old died after he was attacked by several dogs in Alabama, officials say.
Jefferson County deputies said a passerby spotted the man’s body lying in a road just before 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28. First responders determined that the man was dead, but they were initially unable to fully investigate the scene because he was surrounded by dogs.
Animal control set up traps and captured six dogs, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. The dogs were taken to animal control facilities.
The man was identified as Joe Cleveland Scott on Wednesday, March 1, according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
The coroner said Scott was a pedestrian and had been mauled by multiple dogs. His death was a result of the injuries he sustained during the attack.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and animal control continue to investigate the incident.
The attack occurred less than 10 miles outside of Birmingham.
