A bald eagle that got itself caught high in a tree was unable to fly away until an electrical lineman came to help, photos show.

Kansas Wildlife & Parks said a game warden in Jewell County was recently alerted to the bird in need of rescue, then teamed up with Rolling Hills Electric Cooperative to free the bird.

The organization sent lineman Casey Smith to the tree at Lovewell State Park — a job that fell under “other duties as assigned,” according to a March 1 Facebook post.

A video shared by Rolling Hills Electric Cooperative shows Smith in a bucket, high up in the tree, using a long stick to free the bald eagle.

“Casey was able to quickly and safely help free the eagle and get it back on its way again,” the cooperative said. “A day in the life of a lineman never gets boring!”

Lovewell State Park is in north-central Kansas, about 190 miles northwest of Topeka.
