An English setter from Arizona has been named the Guinness World Record holder for longest tongue on a living dog.

The 3-year-old Tucson puppy’s tongue measures 3.74 inches from tip to snout, according to a news release by Guinness World Records.

In order for Bisbee Johnson to qualify for the honorary title, “the dog must have its tongue out of its snout as far as comfortably possible,” according to the record book.

Bisbee’s human parents, Jay and Erika, first met the four-legged friend when he was being “auctioned off to raise money for charity,” according to Guinness World Records.

“When we saw him, we fell in love with him,” Jay said. “So, he went home with us that night.”

Although the Johnsons thought Bisbee’s tongue was abnormally long, it wasn’t until Erika snapped a shot and sent it to her dad that she realized she might have a record breaker on her hands.

“I sent a picture of him panting to my sister and my dad, and I think one of them mentioned that it could be a world record,” she said in the news release.

Bisbee, who has hip dysplasia, underwent a scan when Erika decided to measure his tongue, officials said.

“I tried to measure it while he was panting, and I was not getting a really accurate measurement, but he had to actually be sedated for some hip X-rays,” she said.

Bisbee loves long walks and spending lots of time in the pool, his family told officials.

Bisbee likes to go for walks when his condition lets him and spends long periods of time in the pool during the summer, the release said.

“We feel we were lucky to get him, and he was lucky to get us,” Jay told officials.

The previous record holder for longest tongue on a living dog was a St. Bernard named Mochi from South Dakota, whose tongue measured in at 7.31 inches, officials said.

Tucson is about 110 miles southeast of Phoenix.
