Watch curious wolves investigate a trail camera in Yellowstone National Park
A wolf pack in Yellowstone National Park stumbled upon a trail camera and immediately investigated, video shows.
The Rocky Mountain Wolf Project posted the clip to Facebook on March 27.
“Just a short clip of some wild wolves from Yellowstone, courtesy of our colleagues at the National Park Service,” the group wrote in the caption.
The video shows a brown and black wolf walk into the frame and spot the camera almost immediately. It stares inquisitively into the camera, walks up to it and starts sniffing it and checking it out while others from its pack hang back to watch. Then the rest of the pack trots past with their tongues out panting.
Viewers in the comments seemed delighted to see a wild wolf up close. Many pointed out how similar the wolves look to German Shepherds, and many also seemed impressed by how they seemed to step in each other’s footsteps to conserve their energy.
“Smart dog investigating the camera,” someone wrote.
“It looks like he’s trying to figure out if it’s a threat or something edible,” someone else said.
“Nice to see one clean the lens of the camera!” someone joked.
Another commenter thought it looked as if the wolves had just returned from a hunt.
“Absolutely beautiful wolves! They look winded, perhaps they just tried chasing down prey?” they wrote.
