81-year-old food bank exec stole from charity, paid volunteer for sex acts, TN cops say
A Tennessee food bank director is accused of stealing more than $250,000 from the organization’s account and paying a charity volunteer for sex acts, officials said.
James Gill, 81, was indicted on charges of theft of property, money laundering and patronizing prostitution on June 8, according to a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation news release.
After a yearlong investigation, officials found that Gill had used money from the Sumner County Food Bank’s accounts to make “personal purchases” that were unrelated to his work as director, the June 10 release says.
Gill also wrote checks to himself and others from the food bank’s account and transferred money into other accounts using a different charity name, officials said.
Gill also had paid a volunteer at the food bank for “sex acts,” according to the release.
Gill was indicted by a grand jury and taken into custody on June 9 with a $75,000 bond.
Sumner County is about 50 miles northeast of Nashville.
