A 2-year-old girl died after she was pinned between vehicles days before her birthday, South Carolina officials said.

The child — Carla Danielle Lobo-Lara — was in her home’s driveway when tragedy struck, according to news releases from the Greenville County Coroner’s Office and S.C. Highway Patrol troopers.

The girl reportedly was standing behind her family’s parked car when a family friend’s pickup truck pulled forward and hit her. The pickup then “unintentionally collided into the back of the family vehicle, causing Carla to be pinned between the two,” officials said.

The crash was reported just before 8 p.m. July 1. It happened in a neighborhood roughly 6 miles northwest of downtown Greenville.

The girl died at the scene. She would have turned 3 years old on July 8, according to the coroner’s office.

An autopsy was scheduled for the toddler, and an investigation into her death continues, officials wrote.
