A 12-year-old Missouri boy is accused of shooting his mother’s boyfriend as the couple fought at their St. Louis home, according to police.

The couple, a 30-year-old woman and 31-year-old man, were “having a verbal altercation” at about 12:40 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said in a news release.

As they argued inside a bedroom, the woman’s son grabbed a shotgun, walked into the room and shot her boyfriend in the head, police said.

Investigators say the boy ran from the scene that night but later went to a police station with his mother to turn himself in.

The woman’s boyfriend was taken to a hospital where he was in stable condition, police said.

An investigation is underway.
