Ohio murderer escaped while on leave to Christmas shop. 50 years later, he’s still loose
An Ohio man convicted of murder and attempted rape of a 14-year-old managed to escape custody while out on a Christmas shopping excursion.
Lester Eubanks, now 80, was convicted of the 1965 crime and sentenced to death, but the sentence was commuted to life in prison without parole in 1972. By the following year, Eubanks was on the run.
Eubanks escaped in December 1973 while on a temporary furlough to go Christmas shopping, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.
He has since been added to the U.S. Marshals list of the 15 most wanted fugitives in the country.
Eubanks has been on the lam longer than any other criminal on the list of most wanted fugitives. He is also the oldest criminal currently on the list.
The Marshals Office offered a $50,000 reward for information that leads to the capture and arrest of Eubanks.
Considered armed and dangerous, Eubanks is 5 ‘11 “ and has a large scar or burn on his upper right arm. At the time of his escape, he weighed 175 pounds.
Eubanks’ known aliases are Victor Young, Pete Eubanks and Lester William Eubanks.
