Historic estate owned by ‘Blair Witch’ actor is a dream come true. And it’s for sale
A picturesque estate for sale named “Breezy Hill Compound” has landed on the real estate market in upstate New York, and believe us when we say, it’s like an historic Wonderland come to life.
The estate, which is listed for $3.495 million, also brings a touch of Hollywood to Accord — the residence is owned by “The Newsroom” actor Alison Pill and her husband, “The Blair Witch Project” actor Joshua Leonard, who became obsessed with the estate at first glance.
“I fell in love with the Breezy Hill Compound the first time I saw it in 2021,” Leonard said in a news release. “Its 20+ acres were overgrown and marshy; its collection of buildings, semi-abandoned and unlivable. There was a main stone house, a civil war-era barn, two guest houses and a garage that had all seen better days. But there was potential there... extraordinary potential. ‘Someone needs to save you!’, I thought. Then, ‘Me, I’ll do it!’”
Originally, the stone home on the property was built in 1815 (and “had a history so rich I could feel it in my bones,” the actor said) and Leonard brought in a talented crew and began a two-year journey of restoring and extending the estate.
“With a combination of techniques, we completely transformed the property and all five of its buildings,” Leonard said.
“For the guest houses, we preserved the old footprints, but rebuilt them in a manner far more conducive to modern needs and aesthetics; large eaves, vaulted ceilings and smart toilets in the bathrooms. We whitewashed the spalted hickory floors, and integrated little touches of history, like the reclaimed 19th century stained-glass windows, and hand-hewn collar ties.”
The primary house and barn were a little trickier, with the barn needing a new roof on top of the old one along with new exterior walls. With the main house, the crew added a three-story addition and imported fixtures, tiles, and lighting from all over the world.
The end result is the magic that flows around the fairy tale-like residence.
The listing is held by Megan Brenn-White of Compass.
Accord is about 100 miles north of New York City.
