A Texas woman was arrested after police say she fatally hit a pedestrian crossing the street and did not stop.

The 25-year-old driver is charged with collision involving death, according to KVIA.

According to police, Kimberly Alissa Espinoza, 21, ran across an El Paso street at a non-designated crossing area, KFOX reported.

The driver struck Espinoza with a Jeep Cherokee and failed to stop at the scene, the El Paso Times reported.

A witness then followed the Jeep, pulled in front of the driver so she couldn’t leave and approached her. The driver revved her engine and drove around the witness, so the witness shot at the Jeep’s tires, according to KFOX.

The witness then told the driver that she hit someone and should return to the scene. After police arrived, the driver told investigators she thought she hit a pothole, KVIA reported.

Espinoza was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead, according to the El Paso Times.

According to a report, the driver had a blood alcohol content of .03, which is below the legal limit, KFOX reported.
