As dozens gathered to honor the life of Da’Mya Cummerlander, two people were fatally shot during her vigil, Ohio authorities say.

Cummerlander, 18, had been shot and killed just after midnight on Sunday, June 2, according to The Columbus Dispatch.

Family members said she was attending a graduation party when the shooting broke out, according to WBNS. No suspects had been identified as of Monday.

“Da’Mya loved everybody. She was very caring, fun to be around and she had a whole life ahead of her — a whole life and she had so much to look forward to because she was a unique individual. She was not the average kid,” Monique Thompson, Cummerlander’s mother, told WBNS.

Columbus Police Sgt. Joseph Albert said at least 50 people congregated for a vigil in Krumm Park on Monday when multiple shots were fired, according to a news briefing streamed by WSYX.

Officers found the two male victims had been shot, and they were both pronounced dead at the scene, Albert said. One of the victims is believed to be a child.

It’s unclear if the shooting at the vigil is related to Cummerlander’s killing. Police have not identified a suspect and were unsure of how many people fired weapons.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Columbus Division of Police at 614-645-4730.
