A man attacked passing drivers in a Texas neighborhood, killing one of them, authorities say.

Deputies found the knife-wielding man carrying a stuffed animal after the stabbings in north Harris County on Wednesday, June 5, Harris County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Sidney Miller said in a news briefing.

When he was not cooperating with deputies, authorities tased him and placed him into custody, Miller said.

An investigation revealed the 49-year-old man flagged down two passing motorists in the area, authorities said. When the drivers stopped, he stabbed them both, according to Miller.

One of the victims drove off, and her condition was not disclosed. The other victim, Miller said, drove away and collapsed in his driveway.

A family member found the victim in his vehicle and called 911, the sheriff’s office said. The man, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said he had been stabbed in his chest.

“This is kind of a strange one,” Miller said. “It’s definitely something we will be trying to figure out, what’s the motive behind this and why he did what he did.”

The accused attacker does not live in the area, the sergeant said, adding that he had been in the area visiting his aunt.
