Officials in Texas are investigating after they say human remains were found buried inside a man’s home 25 years after his ex-girlfriend went missing.

On July 9, 1999, Kimberly Langwell was reported missing in Beaumont, Texas, Assistant Chief of Police Jason Plunkett said at a June 14 news conference streamed by KBMT.

“Kimberly was last seen around 5:30 p.m. on July 9 when she called her teenage daughter Tiffany, who was 15 years old at the time,” Plunkett said. “She told her daughter that she would be home around 6:30 for their dinner plans. She did not show up.”

Plunkett said Langwell had a silver 1994 Nissan Altima, which was located at 10:30 p.m. that day in a pharmacy parking lot. Her purse and keys were not in the car, but her cell phone was found, along with other personal belongings, officials said.

She was 34 years old when she was reported missing.

Human remains found decades later

On June 10, 2024, officials in Beaumont executed a search warrant at the home of Terry Rose, 67, after receiving a tip in April that Langwell was killed and buried on his property, according to KBMT.

“June 13, 2024, the search yielded additional evidence related to the 1999 Kimberly Langwell missing persons case,” Plunkett said.

Officials said human remains were found buried under a bedroom floor in Rose’s home, KDFW reported.

The identity of the remains have yet to be confirmed, but officials believe they are Langwell’s.

Rose was arrested and charged with murder, according to officials.

“I don’t think I’ve processed it to be honest, but in the moment that you hear that they’ve found your mother, you’re elated,” Langwell’s daughter, Tiffani McInnis, told KBMT. “It’s a long time coming and I’m so very grateful to have my mother back. Not in the way that I wanted her, but to know that she’s no longer being held is a good feeling.”

Rose and Langwell dated at one time but had broken up about six months before she went missing, according to KDFW.
