Parents leave baby alone near shoreline to go boating in Lake George, New York cops say

The parents of a crying infant found by the shoreline of Lake George were out on the water for an evening boat ride, according to New York state authorities.

A passerby discovered the baby alone, five feet away from the water, the evening of June 18 and alerted law enforcement, state police said in a June 20 news release.

After state troopers arrived at Lake Shore Drive around 5:47 p.m., they learned the infant was “crying for an extended period of time,” according to police.

The parents left the infant alone and went boating for about 15 minutes, police said.

The father, 30, and mother, 28, both residents of Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania, were arrested on charges of endangering the welfare of a child, according to authorities.

McClatchy News is not identifying the couple to protect the identity of the child.

Both parents were issued appearance tickets and are due in Lake George Town Court on June 27, state police said.

Information regarding their legal representation wasn’t immediately available.

Lake George, which is about a 60-mile drive north from Albany, is a 32-mile-long lake that is 195 feet deep in some parts.
