A teenager in Texas is accused of fatally shoot his mother during an argument, according to police and news outlets.

Officers were called to a home in San Antonio around 2:20 p.m. June 19 for reports of a shooting, according to a news release from police.

When police arrived, they said they found Luz Aurora Gonzalez, 37, with a gunshot wound to the back, news outlets reported. She was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Witnesses at the scene told police that Gonzalez had gotten into a verbal altercation with a 16-year-old boy before being shot.

“I saw her when they shot her right in front of me. I don’t know why he pulled the trigger,” Iluminada Torres, Gonzalez’s daughter, told KSAT.

The 16-year-old accused of shooting Gonzalez was her son, according to news outlets.

“I miss her,” Gonzalez’s mother, 91-year-old Teresa Salazar, told KABB. “I cry all the time.”

Police said Gonzalez was walking outside through the front door and was shot in the back once she was outside.

“She was having a normal conversation with my grandma, and then all of a sudden, my brother just starts getting upset,” Torres told KABB. “And they started talking and my mom starts raising her voice at my grandma, and that’s when everything escalated.”

The teen was found a few houses down, according to police. He appeared in court on June 20, KABB reported. His name was not released.
