20-year-old nursing student with ‘bright future’ killed near campus, PA school says

A Temple University nursing student was killed in what authorities are calling a domestic slaying, according to the Pennsylvania university.

The Philadelphia Police Department responded to a home near Temple’s campus around 4 a.m. Saturday, June 22, for a “medical emergency,” officers said.

Inside, police found the body of 20-year-old Milan Jones, who officers said died of “blunt force trauma.”

Details of what led to the killing are unclear, but police said they arrested 21-year-old Tymir Lackey. Court records show Lackey was charged with murder, recklessly endangering another person and tampering with physical evidence.

Temple University did not go into the specifics of Jones and Lackey’s relationship but said in a June 23 news release the incident “was domestic in nature.”

Jones was set to enter her third year in Temple’s nursing program, according to the university. Administrators referred to Jones as a “promising young woman.”

“She enjoyed helping and caring for others, and her decision to pursue a career in nursing reflects just that,” university administrators said. “There is no doubt that she had a very bright future ahead of her.”

Temple University said Lackey, who is also a student at the college, was placed on immediate suspension.
