A 911 call led to a woman found dead inside her South Georgia home, police said. Now, her 15-year-old grandson is charged.

It happened Saturday, June 29, at a home in Valdosta, the city’s police department said in a July 3 news release. Officers were called around 5:50 p.m. about an unresponsive woman.

Inside, they found 52-year-old Nita Ann Luke “deceased and covered in blood,” according to police. There was also “obvious” trauma to her body, authorities said.

As officers were investigating, they spotted Luke’s grandson pacing back and forth in front of the home. Authorities also said there’s other evidence the teen was involved in his grandma’s death, but didn’t give specifics.

“This is one of the most horrific crimes that I have seen,” Valdosta Police Chief Leslie Manahan said in the release. “Our prayers go out to the family and friends of Ms. Luke, as they move forward in trying to understand why this unnecessary act of violence occurred.”

The teen was arrested on multiple charges, including malice murder, felony murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, police said.

He was taken to a juvenile detention center, and authorities said more charges are possible.

Valdosta is about a 70-mile drive northeast from Tallahassee, Florida.
