19-year-old woman wakes to find a stranger in her bedroom, California police say
A trail of wet footprints led San Diego officers to an accused prowler after a 19-year-old woman woke to find him in her bedroom, California police and news outlets reported.
Dillan Baldwin Acuna, 22, fell in a swimming pool while making his escape after the encounter at 4:45 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, police told KNSD. He was arrested on a charge of burglary.
The woman awoke after Acuna lifted a bed sheet off her, police told the station.
“Looks like the male kind of got spooked and left the house,” Sgt. Ariel Savage told The San Diego Union-Tribune.
The woman immediately called 911 and arriving officers found Acuna in a side yard of the home before he ran away, police said in a news release.
Officers followed his wet footprints after he fell into a neighbor’s pool and arrested Acuna, KNSD reported.
Neighbors reported several other recent prowling incidents, KGTV reported.
“If anybody has any Ring door cameras, any Nest cameras, please review them for the last couple of days just to see if you’ve had anyone wandering around your property,” Capt. Alberto Leos told KFMB.
Police asked anyone with information or video to call 858-495-7900, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported.
