Store clerk shot, killed during robbery, Texas cops say. Customer’s tip leads to arrest
A convenience store customer tipped off deputies after witnessing a fatal shooting, which in turn led to the accused shooter’s arrest, Texas authorities say.
The Chambers County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a TimeMax convenience store around 9:25 p.m. Saturday, July 27, for reports of an aggravated robbery. Upon arrival, the deputies found a store clerk had been shot.
The clerk, identified by the sheriff’s office as Ginny Bagby, was taken to a hospital, where she died from her injuries, authorities said in a news release.
A customer gave deputies a description of the accused shooter, and “a short period later,” they began pursuing his vehicle, the sheriff said.
The driver, Todd Carter, was taken into custody. Carter, of the Houston area, was jailed on a capital murder charge, according to the news release.
The sheriff’s office and several Facebook commenters offered condolences to Bagby’s family.
“Ginny was a ray of sunshine that will be missed greatly,” one woman said.
Chambers County is about a 50-mile drive east from Houston.
