Nebraska authorities are searching for the driver of a semi-truck they believe fatally struck a 72-year-old man, then left without helping.

A call came in to 911 at about 8:40 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, about a man found dead along Interstate 80, near the town of Big Springs, the Nebraska State Police said in a news release.

He was located near a Lincoln Town Car parked on the shoulder of the highway, police said.

It appears the man, identified as Dennis Hall of Clovis, California, was changing a flat tire when he was hit and killed by a passing big rig, according to police.

Based on information gathered, investigators say Hall is the victim of a hit-and-run.

“Evidence located at the scene indicates that the vehicle involved was a semi, but there was no specific description,” police said. “Troopers believe the semi would likely have damage on the front passenger side.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at 308-632-1211.

Big Springs is a roughly 300-mile drive west from Lincoln.
