A 75-year-old woman accused of robbing a bank in Ohio has pleaded guilty, according to court records.

Ann Mayers’ family told police that the woman, who was 74 years old in April when she robbed a bank, was scammed into sending money to a person she met online, according to WLWT.

“In that aspect, some may see her as a ‘victim.’ Unfortunately, Ann chose to victimize several other people in the bank by robbing it with a firearm as a remedy for her situation,” Sgt. Brandon McCroskey told USA Today in April.

McClatchy News reached out to Mayers’ attorney for comment Sept. 11 but did not immediately hear back.

On April 19, Mayers walked into a credit union in Fairfield Township and robbed it at gunpoint, according to a Facebook post by police at the time.

Officers later found Mayers at her home with the car that was used in the robbery and a handgun, police said. Authorities said she admitted to robbing the bank.

During a court hearing, Mayers told a judge, “I did what I did,” WLWT reported. She also wrote letters of apology to the bank tellers.

Mayers had no prior criminal history, authorities said.

A family member told police Mayers had borrowed $70,000 from two people, according to WLWT. She said Mayers was sending the money to a person claiming to be with U.S. Customs, the outlet reported.

On Sept. 10, Mayers pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon andfirearm specification, according to court records.

Her sentencing hearing is set for Oct. 15.

Fairfield Township is about a 30-mile drive north of Cincinnati.
