Mom finds man covered in blood while searching for missing daughter, Iowa officials say
An Iowa man was arrested after police say he hid the body of a 17-year-old missing girl.
The 17-year-old was reported missing in Carroll County on Sept. 22 just before 11 p.m., according to a criminal complaint, KCCI reported.
The girl’s mother and her other daughter were searching for the missing teen when they came across 21-year-old Nathaniel Bevers-McGivney,”covered in apparent blood,” the news outlet reported, citing court records.
Police asked Bevers-McGivney about the blood, and he asked to speak with a lawyer, the Des Moines Register reported.
Bevers-McGivney was also in possession of the missing girl’s scooter and other personal items, the outlet reported.
The girl’s body was found just after 9 a.m. Sept. 23 in a way that suggests Bevers-McGivney intentionally tried to hide it, according to WHO13.
Bevers-McGivney is charged with abuse of a corpse – failure to disclose known location, WHO13 reported. Attorney information was not available.
The girl’s identity has not been released, but the Southeast Valley School District issued a statement on its Facebook page:
“In light of the tragic events involving a Jaguar High School student today, and out of respect for the feelings of those impacted by this incident, all district competitions and practices scheduled for this afternoon and evening (September 23, 2024) are canceled. A cause of death has not been released.
It’s unclear if any additional charges will be filed.
