A 27-year-old woman was shot in the neck by her boyfriend outside a Missouri casino, police say.

Calvin Koong, 50, is charged with first-degree domestic assault, first-degree kidnapping and armed criminal action following the Saturday, Sept. 28, shooting at Ameristar Casino, according to the St. Charles Police Department.

It happened in the casino’s parking garage, and Koong initially tried to flee from a security officer, KSDK reported. He eventually told law enforcement he was responsible for the shooting, according to a police reported obtained by KSDK.

Surveillance footage showed Koong and the woman struggling inside a vehicle and her collapsing near the car after she exited, KSDK reported.

Police said the victim, who is from Malaysia, identified her boyfriend as the shooter. She was taken to a hospital “for emergency surgery with life-threatening injuries,” according to police.

Officers have not provided an update on the woman’s condition as of Sept. 30.

Koong was jailed on a $500,000 bond, court records show. A motive for the shooting is unclear.

St. Charles is about a 25-mile drive northwest from St. Louis.
