Woman’s body discovered inside luggage bag spurs investigation, Las Vegas police say

A woman’s body found stuffed in a luggage bag has opened an investigation into her death, Las Vegas police reported.

The body of Kristen Avelar, 46, was found near an apartment complex near Spencer Street and East Reno Avenue at about 4 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, police said in a news release.

Someone had called to report a possible body, police said. Medical personnel confirmed she was dead and homicide investigators took over the case.

Authorities did not specify her cause of death.

Detectives ask that anyone who knew Avelar or has information about what could have led to her death call 702-828-3521 or email homicide@lvmpd.com.
