An 11-year-old girl died after falling into a retention pond, Utah sheriff’s officials told news outlets.

A 7-year-old boy who was with the girl ran for help after the girl fell in the water at about 4:25 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, the Tooele County Sheriff’s Office told KSL.

The child’s father and a neighbor rushed to the pond and pulled the 11-year-old girl out but could not revive her, sheriff’s officials told KUTV.

She was pronounced dead at the scene after paramedics took over, deputies told KTVX.

Sgt. Scott Caldwell told KUTV the pond was roped off with “no trespassing” signs. The girl apparently slipped on a plastic membrane under the water and slid into the pond.

Tooele County is about an 85-mile drive southwest from Salt Lake City.
