Two men were last seen in a “heated argument” before they were found dead in a sunken vehicle in an Oregon river, police said.

Benigno Hermenegildo-Pascuala, 40, and Eufracio Lopez de Jesus, 39, were reported missing by their families Nov. 25, the Newberg-Dundee Police Department said in a Facebook post.

Witnesses saw them fighting the day before, police said.

Investigators tracked their mobile device data and used surveillance cameras to see they were last at Rogers Landing County Park, police said.

While at the park on Nov. 26, investigators said they saw an oil sheen on the Willamette River’s surface near the boat launch.

Firefighters used an underwater camera and discovered Hermenegildo-Pascuala’s vehicle.

A dive team went into the water and found both of their bodies inside the vehicle, police said.

Police said they do not know why the vehicle was in the river or “what led to the event.”

Newberg is about a 25-mile drive southwest from Portland.
