Guns drawn and shots ring out after bystander tries to help hurt driver, Utah cops say
A bystander approached a driver who appeared to have been hurt in a car wreck, and then a “confrontation escalated” that led to both men drawing guns, deputies in Utah said.
The driver “sustained multiple gunshot wounds” and was flown to a hospital, the Tooele County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a Jan. 8 post on Facebook.
Deputies didn’t name the driver or provide an update on his condition.
The confrontation happened after two people who were testing drones saw a vehicle pull in nearby “with visible damage from an apparent accident,” according to deputies.
The driver appeared to be hurt and disoriented, and one of the bystanders called 911 while the other approached the driver to help, deputies said. That interaction led to both men drawing guns, according to deputies, who didn’t provide more details.
The bystander wasn’t hurt, ABC4 reported.
Deputies said they’re still investigating.
Tooele is about a 35-mile drive southwest from Salt Lake City.
