A man was moving his ex’s body when he crashed and rolled his car in Oregon, authorities said.

Deputies with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to a crash at about 6:30 a.m. Jan. 27 in Independence, the Salem Police Department said in a news release.

At the scene, deputies found 39-year-old Tyler Andrew Holman injured in the vehicle, police said. He was taken to a hospital in Salem.

They also discovered Ashly Jean Gandolfi’s body in the wreckage, police said.

The 35-year-old woman had died from a gunshot wound before she was in the crash, police said, so it appeared Holman had been moving her body.

A medical examiner said she had been killed, police said.

Holman was released from the hospital on Jan. 30 and arrested on multiple charges: second-degree murder, tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse.

Police said the two “were previously in a romantic relationship.”

“I’m still in shock, my heart is heavy. I love you, Ashly Gandolfi. You are one of the sweetest people,” Brittany Simpson said in a Facebook post.

Independence is about a 10-mile drive southwest from Salem.
