Three young girls accused in string of random street attacks, California cops say
Three young girls are accused in a series of unprovoked assaults on people in San Francisco, California police reported.
Officers have received reports of five different assaults by by a group of “juveniles with similar suspect descriptions” in July, police said in a Monday, July 28, news release
In the most recent attack, a group of girls attacked two people on a downtown San Francisco street just before 3 p.m. Saturday, July 26, police said.
Bystanders stepped in to stop the attack and the girls ran away, police said. The two people who were attacked required medical care for non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators recovered security video of the incident and sent photos of the girls to patrol officers, police said.
Officers in plainclothes at a shopping mall recognized the girls and cited a 13- and 14-year-old on a charge of assault likely to produce great bodily injury, police said. Officers detained and admonished the 11-year-old.
All three were released to the custody of their parents.
“Violent attacks like these will never be tolerated, and the SFPD will use all resources available to ensure our city is safe,” Interim Police Chief Paul Yep said in the release. “I am extremely disappointed in the actions of these individuals, and they will be held accountable.”
An investigation into the attacks continues. Detectives ask anyone with information to call 415-575-4444.
