A joyful dog has been “let down so many times” — and he needs another new home.

“He’s been adopted… and then ended up back at the shelter. Not once, not twice, but three times,” a North Carolina animal shelter wrote Aug. 12 on Facebook. “He’s come back with a back injury. He’s come back with his skin flaring. And most recently, in July 2025, he was found wandering as a stray — skin worse than ever.”

Madison County Animal Services said Enzo remains hopeful as he waits for a fresh start. For more than a year, the dog has been in and out of its shelter in Marshall, a roughly 20-mile drive northwest from the mountain town of Asheville.

“This beautiful white husky first came to us in February 2024, surrendered by his owner with painful, inflamed skin and eyes that needed urgent entropion surgery,” the shelter wrote. “He healed, he played, he wagged, and we dreamed he’d found his happy ending.”

But Enzo landed in homes that didn’t work out. Despite the hardships, he continues to be “fun loving and full of joy.”

“He adores walks and hikes, enjoys the company of dogs, and takes treats in the most endearingly unique way,” the shelter wrote. “He’s been let down so many times, but he still greets us with that husky smile.”

As of Aug. 13, the 24Petconnect website still listed the roughly 4-year-old pup among the dogs waiting for new owners. Details about the shelter’s adoption process can be found at madisoncountync.gov/animal-shelter.

“Enzo’s had enough goodbyes — he needs one hello that lasts,” the shelter wrote.

Madison County Animal Services didn’t immediately share additional details with McClatchy News on Aug. 13.
