13-foot crocodile recorded chasing angler’s catch across river onto land in Australia
An angler reeling in a trophy fish found himself on the run after it came out of the river with a crocodile in pursuit.
It happened in north Australia’s Kakadu National Park and video shows people were screaming and running for safety as it climbed out of the water and began walking up a boat ramp.
Still, the angler refused to surrender the fish, even snapping his fishing rod in half during the struggle.
Warning: This video contains strong language.
“Let him have it. Let him have the fish. Give it to him,” people are heard screaming in the video.
The angler, identified as Scott Roscarel, kept the fish and the video ends with the frustrated crocodile sitting on the boat ramp, refusing to go back in the water.
Roscarel, who lives in Darwin, posted the video April 21 on Instagram and reported the 3-foot barramundi fish was caught at the Cahills Crossing site in the Northern Territory.
“Catching a meter barra is hard enough without having to fight a croc as well,” he posted. “Didn’t realize how sketchy it was until I seen the video. Had that much adrenaline pumping.”
The crocodile was more than 13 feet long, according to ABC News Australia.
Roscarel was at the river with his family and says he decided not to surrender after having “a bad few days” of fishing, according to 7NEWS Australia.
“Honestly, I don’t think the mind was turned on,” he told the station. “I think the (boat) ramp saved me. If you watch the video you actually notice the croc got its bottom jaw stuck on the ramp.”
