Israel Says Iran Launched Missiles at It in First Strike Since Ceasefire

Iran fired ballistic missiles toward northern Israel on Sunday, according to the Israeli military, in what appeared to be the first such attack since a ceasefire halted the U.S.-Israeli war with Tehran earlier this year.

“The IDF identified missiles launched from Iran toward Israel. Defensive systems are operating to intercept the threat,” Israel Defense Forces posted to X on Sunday.

The Trump administration has been engaged in talks with Iranian officials aimed at securing a broader agreement to end the conflict, but negotiations have repeatedly stalled, with both sides trading accusations over conditions and enforcement.

President Donald Trump told Fox News correspondent Trey Yingst on Sunday, “What I would suggest to Iran: You’ve shot your missiles, that’s enough. Get back to the table and make a deal.”

The reported strike came hours after Iranian officials warned they would retaliate for Israeli airstrikes on the southern outskirts of Beirut, part of an ongoing campaign against Hezbollah, an Iran-backed militant group.

There were no immediate reports of casualties from the missile launches.

The United States and Israel launched a coordinated offensive against Iran in late February, triggering weeks of intense fighting that killed thousands and rattled global markets. Iran responded with waves of missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and U.S.-aligned countries in the Gulf, escalating tensions across the region.

The fallout extended to global energy markets, with Iran restricting traffic through the Strait of Hormuz-a critical chokepoint for oil shipments-disrupting flows and helping push energy prices higher as transit through the route remained constrained.

Since early April, both sides have observed a fragile truce while the Trump administration has sought a broader agreement with Iran, though negotiations have yet to produce a breakthrough.

Following Sunday's developments, Israeli Education Minister Yoav Kisch said schools across the country would be closed on Monday.
