Washington State politicians respond to Ukraine crisis, offer support
On the heels of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Washington state politicians in Congress have been actively responding to the violence.
U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell released the following statement Thursday, and offered help to those who may need it:
“Ukraine is a proud and sovereign nation. Vladimir Putin ignored Ukrainians’ decision to live in a democracy and be free. Instead, Putin chose war. His invasion of Ukraine marks another very dark moment in the history of Europe.”
“In the face of this reckless aggression, we must stand together with our NATO allies and respond with unequivocal and unified action.”

U.S. Senator Patty Murray and co-sponsor of the Defending Ukraine Sovereignty Act of 2022, legislation striving to counter aggression from Russian against Ukraine, also Tweeted a response to the Russian invasion:
In January 2021, Murray also issued a statement after voting against the failed Nord Stream 2 bill that would have imposed sanctions on the company who built a natural gas pipeline between Russia and Germany, Nord Stream 2 AG.
“The situation in Europe is incredibly delicate at this moment,” Murray said in the Jan. 15 statement. “After the previous administration, we need to be taking steps to strengthen our relationships with our allies and strategic partners — and we need to be focused on ensuring the safety and security of our country and our European partners, not scoring political points.”
