Tacoma City Councilwoman Victoria Woodards elected to lead health board

Tacoma City Councilwoman Victoria Woodards was elected Wednesday as chairwoman of the Tacoma-Pierce County Board of Health.

Woodards succeeds Pierce County Councilman Stan Flemming, chairman for the past two years.

Flemming, a physician, is leaving the health board – the governing body for the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department – because his term on the County Council is up at the end of the year.

Woodards was vice chairwoman of the health board. County Councilman Rick Talbert was elected vice chairman Wednesday.

The health board unanimously elected Woodards and Talbert to the one-year leadership posts.
