Washington congressional representative tests positive for COVID-19
A Washington official in the U.S. House of Representatives tested positive for coronavirus Wednesday.
Rep. Derek Kilmer, D-Gig Harbor, released a statement declaring his positive test after testing negative as recently as Tuesday.
Klimer, 48, represents Washington’s 6th Congressional District, which runs from Tacoma to the Olympic Peninsula. He said in a statement that he is fully vaccinated, boosted and asymptomatic.
“I will follow CDC guidance and isolate for the next several days,” his office statement said. “My office will remain fully operational and I will continue working virtually on behalf of the folks I represent.”
Other House Democrats have tested positive, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The 82-year-old Democratic leader’s office released a statement that Pelosi is also fully vaccinated and boosted. She reports to be asymptomatic.
Three weeks ago, the New York Times reported that nine Democratic House members tested positive for the coronavirus following a party retreat.
