Pierce County Judge Brian Tollefson won’t seek re-election, he said this week.
Tollefson has been a Superior Court judge for more than 27 years, and a member of the Tollefson family has been in public service locally since 1938, he said in a letter to The News Tribune.
“I have been honored to serve the community in this capacity and am grateful for the trust given me by so many for so many years,” Tollefson wrote.
“This career has given me great personal and professional satisfaction, encouraged intellectual growth and provided me with a deep appreciation for the integrity of the judiciary.”
He said he hasn’t decided when his retirement will start.
All 22 Superior Court bench seats are up for election this year.
